Hummingbirds 04:10
i was younger when i came to you you rode on a dolphin tail magic mist upon the ocean blue you took my hand and left gray scale i was swinging from a crescent moon star drawn monkey bars and soft sand dunes i was wishing and singing a little tune you needed a place to sleep and wanted to water me too so it was reading palms on the fifty six bus and tying each other’s shoes and it was paper rabbits in my dresser drawer and nestling into the crook of you i could cut a collage of the things you did sweet like the butterscotch on your lips steady like leaning on you in the metro line warm like fingers interlaced at night and you were wishing me well even when it hurt and picking me the best fruit and you were holding enough for the both of us peeling and feeding me too and i hope a thousand hummingbirds will carry you where you want to go and i pray whatever sea tides come your way strong legs carry you forward and sometimes a quiet sparrow in the corner of my mind will sing to come home to you

oh sugar sand beaches oh trees with the flowers that sing oh little green creatures oh library books with wings oh elephant shadow oh jellyfish in my bruise oh floating fog of tomorrow oh berry with the bitter juice can you do me a favor could you do what i can’t do no more pixels or paper only you can see me through travel to my love tell me is she alright give her my best keep her warm in the night slip in her socks as she curls her toes tumble into the tea cup and down her throat like the honey she pours from the garden we grew where the bees could tell that the winter was soon where we braided the grass and the hyacinth bloomed and we planted grape seeds moon after moon and when you return can you tell me how it was share a taste of the honey and the bees’ familiar buzz tell me does she remember the world that we wove does the still smell the flowers we grew in the grove does she walk in the woods hold a hand to her heart visit the garden and trace the tree bark oh sugar sand beaches oh trees with the flowers that sing oh little green creatures oh library books with wings oh elephant shadow oh jellyfish in my bruise oh floating fog of tomorrow oh berry with the bitter juice

The Reef 05:18
she wrapped me in silver put a rose in my hair she slept on my sea floor and answered my prayers she reached for me softly with sugar on her tongue but our kisses were salty and turning me numb how do you speak so sweetly and still turn my corners to dark how do you breathe so deeply and fill my lungs with these shards of green and blue come with me under water we’ll dive way down where they bite at our knees sand and branches, dinner time dances come with me under water it’s been so long since we last spoke transfer your bruise to banyan tree roots, i know you’re in some glass galaxy forgetting me now but i’m trying to hold onto me and remember somehow i still have my starfish, my skin and my scales i listen for whale songs and i’m chasing their trails come with me under water i’ll hold your hand if you’re afraid, you said the smell of your soap, the reef always knows i’ll still be under water i’ll pick a few plants and fill up my photo frame fingers unpainting, slowly erasing flying and falling and falling floating and floating and glowing and glowing growing and growing and reaching and reaching i’m born of the reeds in the reef
